1. Definitions and Interpretation

1.1 Definitions

In these Terms & Conditions, unless the context requires otherwise:

  • Company / We / Us / Our: Refers to JLR Engine Works, including any successors or assigns.
  • Customer / You / Your: Any individual or business requesting goods or services.
  • Contract: The agreement between the Company and the Customer for goods and/or services.
  • Goods: Any engines, gearboxes, or parts supplied by the Company.
  • Work: Any services carried out including repairs, fitting, replacements, or diagnostics.
  • Vehicle: Any vehicle submitted to us for work or inspection.
  • Estimate / Quote: A written or verbal approximation of cost.
  • Order: Instruction from the Customer to proceed with Goods or Work.
  • Completion: The point at which work is finished or goods are supplied.
  • Price: The total amount payable for Goods and/or Work.
  • Working Days: Monday to Friday excluding public holidays.

1.2 General

These Terms apply exclusively to all Contracts. Any variation must be agreed in writing.

1.3 Interpretation

Headings are for convenience only and do not affect meaning. Words in singular include plural and vice versa.

1.4 Errors

We reserve the right to correct any clerical or administrative errors without liability.

1.5 Updates

We may update these Terms at any time. Continued use of the website implies acceptance of the latest version.

2. Formation of Contract

A Contract is formed when:

  • You request a quote via our website
  • You approve a quote (verbally or in writing)
  • We begin processing or carrying out the work
  • We confirm your order

Contracts are non-transferable without written consent.

  1. Insurance & Responsibility
  • Vehicles remain the Customer’s responsibility while on our premises
  • Customers must ensure their vehicle is insured
  • If work is carried out via insurance, the insurer may act as the Customer, but you remain liable for any unpaid costs
  1. Estimates & Quotations
  • Quotes are valid for 7 days unless stated otherwise
  • If no instruction is received within 7 days, storage charges may apply
  • If additional work is required beyond the estimate, we will seek approval before proceeding
  1. Pricing
  • Prices are based on costs at the time of quotation
  • We reserve the right to adjust prices due to changes in materials, labour, or external factors
  • If the price increases significantly, you may cancel and pay for work completed
  • Specifications are approximate and not guaranteed to match exactly
  1. Timeframes

All timelines are estimates only. While we aim to meet deadlines, delays do not entitle cancellation or refusal of goods/services.

  1. Payment & Collection

7.1 Payment Methods

We accept bank transfer or cash only. Card payments are not accepted.

7.2 Collection

  • Goods must be collected once ready
  • Vehicles must be collected after completion

7.3 Storage

  • Storage charges apply after 7 days
  • Uncollected vehicles may be sold or disposed of after 3 months, with proceeds adjusted against outstanding balances

7.4 Late Payments

  • Interest may be charged on overdue balances
  • Additional administrative fees may apply

7.5 Partial Work

If work is incomplete, you will be charged for work done and parts supplied.

  1. Ownership & Risk
  • Risk transfers upon delivery
  • Ownership remains with us until full payment is received
  • We may recover unpaid goods if necessary
  1. Personal Property

Customers must remove personal belongings from vehicles. We are not responsible for loss or damage.

  1. Replaced Parts

Replaced parts become our property unless requested at the time of collection.

  1. Cancellation Policy
  • Orders can be cancelled within 14 days of receiving goods
  • Cancellation requests must be submitted via email
  • Fees may apply (delivery + handling + restocking up to 20%)
  • Returned goods must be unused and in original condition

Important:
Engines are typically supplied as bare units (block and head only) unless stated otherwise.

  1. Returns

Returns are accepted only if:

  • Goods are not special order
  • Returned in original condition
  • Returned within agreed timeframe
  • Original invoice is provided

Handling charges may apply.

  1. Subcontracting

We reserve the right to outsource work to qualified third-party specialists where necessary.

  1. Vehicle Safety

Customers must inform us of any known faults or safety concerns before work begins.

  1. Warranty & Guarantee

15.1 Duration

  • Up to 6 months or 6,000 miles (whichever comes first)

15.2 Coverage

  • Engine block and cylinder head only
  • Excludes ancillaries and labour unless stated

15.3 Conditions

Warranty is valid only if:

  • Correct servicing intervals are followed
  • Interim service is completed (if required)
  • Vehicle is used under normal conditions
  • Engine is installed by qualified professionals

15.4 Exclusions

Warranty is void if:

  • Misuse, neglect, overheating, or low oil occurs
  • Modifications or non-standard components are fitted
  • Vehicle is used for racing, towing (in some cases), or hire
  • Parts are tampered with without approval

15.5 Additional Notes

  • Warranty is non-transferable
  • Recovery, labour, and rental costs are not covered
  • Engines are sold on an exchange basis unless agreed otherwise
  1. Force Majeure

We are not liable for delays or failure to perform due to circumstances beyond our control (e.g., natural disasters, supply chain disruption).

  1. Waiver

Failure to enforce any term does not waive our right to enforce it later.

  1. Communication

All official communication must be made in writing via email or post.

  1. Third-Party Rights

No third party has the right to enforce any part of this Contract.

  1. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and any disputes will be resolved in UK courts.

  1. Additional Terms (Workshop & Repairs)
  • Vehicles must be collected within 3 days after repair to avoid storage fees
  • Labour charges may apply where applicable
  • Warranty claims require vehicle inspection at our premises
  1. Engine Supply & Replacements
  • Replacement engines are provided in case of valid failure
  • Original invoice is required for claims
  • Engines must be returned in supplied condition
  • Fitting/removal labour is not included unless agreed
  • New belts, oil, filters, and plugs must be installed for warranty validity
  • Cancellation after dispatch may incur 20% handling fee + courier costs
